On April 4, 2025, the UA Local 486 Apprenticeship Student Council teed off a new tradition with its first-ever Golf Tournament at Rocky Point Golf Course in Essex—and what a day it was! With 36 teams hitting the greens under perfect skies, the event brought together apprentices, retirees, instructors, and supporters for a fun-filled day of golf, camaraderie, and community spirit.
From the very first tee to the final putt, the energy was high and the laughs were plenty. It was a great way for our Local 486 family to connect outside the classroom and jobsite while raising awareness and support for the apprenticeship program.
We want to give a big thank you to everyone who participated and to all of our generous sponsors who helped make the tournament possible. Your support truly made this event a success.
A heartfelt shout-out goes to some of our incredible retirees—Marc “Zeke” Miller Sr., Jim Matusky, Ed LaPaglia, Davey Janes, and many more—who went above and beyond to help out with everything from setup and cooking to managing the putting contest and keeping the day running smoothly. Your continued dedication to Local 486 does not go unnoticed. Thank you for everything!
We also want to highlight the efforts of our 2nd Year Apprentice, Josh Holsinger, who stepped up to handle lunch duties. Josh’s cooking skills were on full display, and we heard nothing but compliments about the delicious food he prepared. Great job, Josh!
The Student Council is already looking forward to making this tournament an annual event. Thank you again to everyone who came out, pitched in, and made this day one to remember. See you on the green next year!
